The child's teacher had requested the children draw something that reminded them of Christmas.
CHRISTmas.
The child drew Jesus dying on the cross.
Yes, Christmas celebrates Jesus' birth but I can see how a child might be more focused on the reason for his birth---to ultimately die for our sins. The bigger picture if you will.
What you may not be able to see clearly in this picture, and what offended the teacher the most was the x's that were placed over the eyes to signify he had died.
According to an examiner article "After the boy's teacher discovered the drawing, she reported it to officials, and they suspended the boy. His parents were then informed that their son would not be able to return to school unless he underwent a psychological evaluation. The parents paid for the evaluation, which found nothing to indicate that the boy posed a threat to himself or others."
The child had never displayed any violent behavior (or drawings) before. Hmmm, I guess if you are a child you don't get the same "past behavior" excuse that this teacher was able to skate out on.
The boy is now attending another school as his family tries to recover from this incident.

That makes me sick. They are talking about Christmas. I was just talking to a friend about how as a culture, we've gotten to the point where we pick and chose what we want from a holiday. The same people who get all offended when you wish them a Merry Christmas are still buying Christmas trees and presents. I don't get it.
I know that people say, well, be don't believe, but we still do the presents. WHY???? If you don't believe, WHAT are you celebrating.
Okay, I better stop my rant now or I'll never stop.
This is such a sad story for the little boy and his family. I am so PROUD we homeschool!
Isn't this sad!! This is only 20 minutes away from me so it really hit home.
Sad, very sad.
