You have to hear it in her own words...incredible.
The teacher has not been fired and the student was moved to another class which only adds to her continued humiliation. How about moving the TEACHER to another school district or class? The sad part is that I wholeheartedly believe that if this was a case involving a Caucasian student instead of a minority student the outcome would be drastically different. Actually if this was a private school or involved an affluent minority student the outcome would be so very different in my opinion.
There, I've said it.
Think this is an isolated incident? You would be wrong. Another teacher in Houston also took it upon herself to cut a student's hair. This time because she simply didn't like it.

What the?! That is insane, I want to punch that teacher. I can't stand how they single out kids, and she is adorable. Yikes. It definetly makes you double think public school.
Hey Karin! My heart just goes out to this little girl. I can't believe anyone would do this to a child. How scarring! So proud to be a homeschooling Mama!
Ya'll have a Merry Christmas!
I don't think public school should get a bad rap for the poor decision and actions of an individual though. Yes, the teacher would have had different consequences in a private school and yes she did a horrible, unacceptable thing, but teachers like that should not influence the image of public schooling as a whole. For every teacher like that one, there are many many more who are extremely dedicated and committed to their students.
Sorry! I have to stand up for the hard working and excellent public school educators out there.
I understand and appreciate your point of view. For me its that HER bosses didn't fire her or transfer HER to another school or position.
To move the CHILD to another class and have the teacher suffer no consequences sends a message. It says that teacher (and her wrong behavior) is more valuable than the CHILD. It also says that if you are from a public school your rights are less than that of a child who attends a private school, particularly if you are a minority child. That to me is racism and classism. Children should be treated with respect and dignity even if they attend public school, even if they are black and even if they are not affluent.
I'm sorry if I wasn't as clear in my post but I'm looking at this from a parental rights position and that of a child advocate. I didn't mean to say or infer that public school teachers are bad. The best teacher I ever had was Mr. Pryor. My 9th grade Pre Algebra teacher in a public school.
I'm just not a fan of public school officials right now. Particularly the ones who allow that teacher to continue teaching at the expense of the child she humiliated.
W.T.______?!
unbelievable. And touch my child, see what happens.
That is insane!!! I can't believe that nothing has happened to that teacher. Oh, my.
Class Rule #1. Keep your hands to yourself.
I find it hard to believe that's not illegal.
I am a teacher in Ontario, Canada and I guarantee you no teacher would get away with that in my school board. It would be called assault here. But I agree with the person that it's not necessarily public schools that are the problem as I have seen my share of horror stories in private schools as well. Wherever this kind of thing happens, it's abuse, plain and simple and cannot be tolerated.
A ticket? that's it? A ticket that the city will get to keep when a child has been abused? That IS abuse! What if she had cut her finger off? What's the difference? Appalling! She should be FIRED! I pray her mom presses full charges and pushes the school to make the decision they should already be making. UGH! She should also get a restraining order against the teacher! THAT would keep the woman OFF school grounds for up to 3 years. If the school doesn't handle this justly and firmly then they should be questioned for their inability to protect children. What if that same teacher gets frustrated again? $175 isn't severe enough of a consequence.
