When Ted Talks

Ted Talks recently featured Joachim de Pasada in this video that I found amusing and fascinating, both as a home educator and as a parent. A study was done on 4, 5 and 6 year old children using a marshmallow. The children were given a single marshmallow and told if they didn't eat it, when the teacher came back they could have two marshmallows. This test is believed to be an indicator of future success. A child's ability to delay gratification at 4, 5, and 6 is a possible future indication of their ability to do so later in life, obviously for longer periods of time.

After seeing this video of course I want to test it out on my own children. How could I not? Aren't you tempted to figure out how your child would do? All I need to do is figure out how to tape record them without them knowing....hmmmm

I'm a proud Christian homeschooling mother of 5 and wife to a Road Warrior CEO. Four of our children came through the miracle of IVF and 1 through the miracle of adoption. Before I became a home educator I was a interior decorator, event planner, store owner and professional organizer! Now I get to use my past professional skills (and a few new ones) to the benefit of my family and our home.
