Don't forget a hat! All of my children have always worn hats at the beach without fail, without problem. Just start early and make sure it's light weight and that it ties if they are young. My personal favorite, the floppy hat, is available from Hanna Anderson. They are machine washable and have been passed down to our 4th child and are still going strong!

2006If you have infants or early toddlers I highly recommend bringing a baby pool with you to the beach. You can place the pool under an umbrella, put some water in it (from the ocean of course) throw in a couple shells and water toys and you are set! You can now relax as your baby crawls in/out of the pool, splashes and plays in the sand. Your child is protected from the sun under the umbrella too.

Ditch the sippy cups and just bring sport top bottled water. If you don't want to bring a cooler freeze a couple and take them to the beach in your beach bag or diaper bag.

I wish we lived near the beach! I still have the sepia wallets of the boys at the beach on my fridge! Great suggestions!

I'd say bring some baby powder! If you put it on before getting into the car, it takes the sand off your feet. :)
We also bring lifejackets for all the kids, especially if you are not a double digit (aka 10yrs or older). Just an added measure of safety in case a wave sweeps them off their feet or they wander off.
I'll have to try that baby powder idea!
Bringing the swimming pool to the beach is definitely a good idea! I never would have thought of that.
Thank you for this post. We live in Charleston, SC and we took the baby to the beach for the first time when he was about 6 months old. He didn't like how the sand would stick to him since he was wearing sunscreen. It's summertime again and I'm looking for a way for him to 'enjoy' going to the beach, so I am definitely going to try the baby pool idea!
