I should have my own reality show

I really should have my own reality show. Even though Big Daddy would probably move out or request some sort of black out of his face and body on the show. Some days I feel my life is nothing but mundane moments sprinkled with chaos and other times it's more of a you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it kind of thing.

Take what happened to me recently.

We have been reduced to special ordering our crickets, wax worms and meal worms because the local Petco doesn't sell enough of them so the quality is bad. And by bad I mean half dead. So I whipped out my copy of Reptile Magazine (I'm classy like that) and looked up the name of a food source for our geckos. I found Bassett's Cricket Ranch. The ranch consists of 48,000 sq. ft. environmentally controlled buildings and warehouses----full of crickets, mealworms and wax worms. In a broken down economy there is apparently money to be made in feeder insects. If someone in your household is unemployed, not afraid of insects and you have some extra square footage you might want to look into it. After my mealworm fiasco I'm going to pass though.

Anyway, so the Fed Ex box from Bassett's arrives on time and though I'm ticked that their website conveniently doesn't let you know that the shipping charges will be slightly more than the actual goods purchased, I let it go. I have hungry pregnant geckos to feed. I open one box and take out my wax worms and meal worms. A couple are dead but otherwise looking good. I open the other box and it takes a minute for me to realize that the crickets were all packed loose in the box. WHO DOES THAT? I mean besides Bassett's! 250 crickets are now making their way out of the box in into my kitchen. At least 25 are crawling on the front of my shirt and NO I didn't stop and take a picture.

I'm screaming----"catch those crickets!"
The kids are jumping around and I'm running out the front door with my hand over the top of the box.

After a half hour or so of cricket catching and wrangling we manage to get the crickets into our little cricket hutch which I then notice is much too small for 200+ plus crickets. No way will they live long enough for me to feed to the geckos so I'm back where I began.

We need a local food source.
I've got a lead on a bait shop down the street.
Stay tuned.
