Need Cash?

This story was in my local paper yesterday. Apparently with a worsening economy many people are using their bodies to make money---literally. They are renting their wombs, selling their eggs, sperm, and even plasma.

Surrogate mothers average about $40,000 per pregnancy. Egg donation is $5,000 and plasma brings in approximately $600 per month if you have the coveted o negative blood.

How far is too far?
Would you sell any of the above for money?

My first thought is "of course not". But, honestly, if I had to do it to provide basic needs of life to my kids, I would.

Debbie,
I know---once you put your kids in the mix it's a whole different ball game isn't it?

Womb, eggs, sperm (husband's obviously)--no.
Blood, plasma, bone marrow (which all can save a persons life) I would, but not for $$.

Seems how I work at a plasma donation center I see the scum and the good people that go in there. Most of them don't care what we do with the plasma but it really does save lives and helps research for new medicine. After working there six months I decided to donate myself and now I have extra money to put away for books daycare and purses! Now the egg thing I don't think I could handle knowing there is a little me out there. And the womb thing, it is just different destroying your body for someone elses child ya know. BTW I'm not mad you voted for Alyse, I actually agree with you ha ha. Thanks for commenting!
